You’re Not Broken — Your Subconscious Just Learned You Weren't Enough

Fawning and people pleasing are not flaws or a failure. They are learned survival responses that often forms in childhood when love feels uncertain, conditional, or unsafe.

Your patterns are trying to protect you.

Healing doesn’t happen by pushing harder or fixing yourself. It begins when the nervous system feels safe enough to relax and the inner child feels supported enough to reconnect.

The exhaustion is real and its valid.

It's not your fault. Your subconscious has been steering your boat. It could be no other way.

This work meets your inner child's fears with compassion, easing you up and out of the survival programs of the past.

Meet Lisa A. Romano

I wasn’t born knowing how to heal codependency. I learned the hard way: through years of feeling invisible, walking on eggshells, and losing myself in relationships that mirrored the emotional chaos of my childhood.

As an adult child of two adult children of alcoholics, I know firsthand what it feels like to live in quiet self-abandonment: fawning for approval, over-giving to stay connected, and never quite feeling good enough, no matter how much I achieved. For a long time, I believed my pain was a personal flaw. It wasn’t. It was a subconscious survival pattern.

My work is rooted in decades of personal healing, professional experience, and a deep commitment to helping others reconnect with themselves gently and honestly. Healing happens when safety is restored; not through force, but through awareness, compassion, and nervous system regulation.

It is an honor to work with adult children. They are the cycle-breakers. They are the ones who feel what previous generations could not, grieve what was never acknowledged, and choose healing so the past no longer defines the future.

Signs You've Been Abandoning Yourself to Survive

If you struggle with some or many of the signs below, please know they all make sense in the context of childhood survival. If you had to shrink as a child to avoid criticism or rejection, and you find yourself feeling invisible or voiceless in your relationships today, you aren't broken; you are simply running an old survival pattern that hasn't been updated yet.

Dear One, we can only attract what our nervous system registers as familiar. Your logical mind can scream "no more toxic dynamics, no more seeking approval," while your nervous system continues scanning for the exact chaos of the past. It’s not you—it’s your programming.

Here is the magic of a breakthrough: most people carrying the wound of “not enough” do not see themselves as codependent. They just feel exhausted, powerless, and bewildered by why life feels so heavy. They rarely recognize how hidden subconscious beliefs quietly follow them into their finances, sabotage their self-care, and block them from loving themselves.

For over a decade, I searched for answers to the heavy anxiety and painful relationship patterns running my life. But true recovery didn't begin until my internal world—and my old way of relating to myself finally had a name.

My secret subconscious fear, the one that was at the steering wheel of my life, fueling codependency outside of conscious awareness?

Will they still love me if I stop overgiving?

What has a name can finally be healed.

  • Shrinking until you disappear: You find yourself toning down your opinions, biting your tongue, and folding your entire personality away just to keep the peace. You lose yourself so easily in others that enmeshment starts to feel like love—robbing you of your voice, your boundaries, and your individuality without you even realizing you were vanishing.

  •  Abandoning yourself at the first sign of friction: The moment someone's tone shifts or disapproval flashes across their face, your body panics. You immediately override your own truth, fold like a house of cards, and say "it's fine" when it is destroying you inside—all to keep the peace at your expense.

  • Living trapped in your own head: You replay conversations for hours, agonizing over whether you said the wrong thing or disappointed someone. You walk into a room and instantly scan everyone’s face and tone to measure their mood. Your brain is trapped in a 24/7 hyper-vigilant loop, desperately trying to solve a panic you can't even logic your way out of.

  • Chronic self-doubt: Before you make almost any decision, you run it through an invisible filter: What will they think? Will they be mad? Will I cause a problem? Slowly, your own wants, needs, and desires fade into the background until you don't even know what you want anymore. This isn't just indecision—it is self-abandonment, and it is how an old survival program quietly runs your entire life.

  • Believing love must be earned: Somewhere in the background, quietly running everything, is the crushing belief that you are simply not good enough as you are. So you settle for less than you deserve, overgive, overfunction, and burn yourself out trying to anticipate everyone's needs before your own. And here is the hardest part: you have no idea this is what you're doing. Self-abandonment feels normal. It just feels like being you.

  • Attracting narcissistic or avoidant partners: if you were raised to believe your role is to manage others' emotions through self-sacrifice and self-abandonment, you and the narcissist fit together like a lock and key. You are other-oriented; they are self-oriented. You were trained to give; they were trained to take. Neither of you chose this consciously. It is a dance of two subconscious minds, each playing out childhood programming, and the music keeps playing until one of you awakens. Dear One, let it be you.

What makes this work different

These are not courses you watch. They are formulas for change, and every part is built the way it is for a reason.

The wounds running your adult life were not formed in your thinking mind. They were formed early, below conscious awareness, in a child who worked out that being small and useful was the safest way to be loved. That child is still running the program. It is why you can understand your patterns completely and still watch yourself repeat them on a Tuesday afternoon.

You cannot argue with something that was installed before you had words for it. So we do not try.

Here is what you actually do

You learn in small pieces. Short lessons, one idea at a time, because a nervous system that grew up bracing cannot absorb a firehose. Bite size is not a convenience. It is how the material gets in.

You meditate in theta and alpha. Research suggests the brain becomes more receptive to new patterning in slower brainwave states, that drowsy place between waking and sleep. This is where we speak to the child instead of lecturing the adult.

You journal with structure. Not diary pages. Neuroscience-informed prompts built to activate your prefrontal cortex, your CEO, so you start observing your own thinking rather than being carried along by it. That skill has a name. Metacognition. It is the difference between having a thought and noticing you are having one.

You do experiential homework. You practice in your actual life, with your actual people, because integration happens in the body and across the week, not inside the video.

Why the order matters

Your brain is a prediction machine. It forecasts your future out of your past, which is why the same relationship keeps arriving wearing a different face.

We are not deleting those predictions. Every one of them kept you safe once, and a system that feels its defenses being torn away will only reach for them harder. So we honor what they were for, then update them with new evidence, slowly enough that nothing flinches.

That is why Level One comes first, and why Level Three cannot. You have to feel safe before you can look. You have to reclaim a self before you can set one down.

Why I built it this way

I built this after my own recovery, when years of insight and talk therapy and plain willpower had not moved the pattern an inch. What I finally understood is that awareness is where the work starts. It is not the whole of it.

It is neuroscience-informed, shaped by decades of lived experience, and recommended by clinicians including Robin Bryman, PhD, and Alyse A. Rynor, LCSW, who understand the limits of insight-only approaches.

Hear from people like Alyse, who did the work.

Real People Finding Their Way Back Home

These are adult children who spent years reading a room before they read themselves. Some were where you are right now. Unsure, confused, certain they were not enough.

It was never them. It was their programming.
